The simple exercise of writing your goals down on paper forces you take a step back and look at where you are and where you are headed.  With this in mind you can then focus on where you want to be.  How will you get anywhere if you don’t know where you are and where you want to be.

You can read more online if you like about how Dr. Gail Matthews created a research experiment to track the level of success of setting, writing, and sharing goals. Basically the results of her experiment showed that the participants that performed these activities and sent weekly updates on average were 33% more successful than those who only created their goals and did nothing else further with them.

33%! That’s like saying if you go to the casino and pull this particular slot machine, it will pay out $33 on top of every $100 you bet. Whereas your friend who only plays the breakeven slot machine will walk out with no more or no less than he had in his pockets when he walked in. How many hundreds would you bet (if you were a gambler)?
